Where Photography Meets Imagination - Capturing Reality, Crafting Art

What media of art do you work in?
I work in mixed media, combining digital art with physical processes. I begin with photography-based digital compositions, which are printed on canvas or fine art paper and then transformed through the addition of hand-applied paint and textures.

How would you describe your genre of painting?
My work sits within contemporary mixed-media abstraction. It blends photography, digital manipulation, and expressive painterly interventions to explore atmosphere, movement, and emotional resonance rather than literal representation.

Describe your creative process.  When you begin a painting, do you have an idea of what the end result is? Do you prepare sketches first?  Do you know the colors you are going to use?
My creative process is intuitive and fluid, with no fixed method. At times, I begin with a clear direction and photograph specifically for a particular work. At other times, I sit with hundreds of images and allow patterns, moods, and visual connections to guide the direction of the piece.

I rarely work from sketches, and the final outcome is not fully predetermined. While I may have an initial sense of movement or tone, color choices and textures evolve organically as the work develops, responding to the image and the emotional energy of the piece.

How do you hope viewers interpret your artwork?
I hope viewers encounter my work with a sense of wonder and gentle awe, finding space for reflection and personal connection rather than a fixed meaning. I want the work to invite pause - allowing each viewer to connect with it through their own memories, emotions, or sense of stillness.

What is your favorite praise you have received from a client/viewer  about your work?
Someone once shared that they kept noticing new details in the work over time, and that it continued to reveal itself rather than feeling finished in a single viewing.

Outside of being an artist, what are some other things/hobbies you enjoy?
Outside my studio practice, I work as a professional photographer based in Singapore, photographing food, products, interiors, and portraits. Beyond commissioned work, I enjoy traveling and spending time in nature, where I create the photographs that later become the foundation for my artworks. Photography remains both a profession and a way for me to observe, slow down, and stay connected to the environments that inspire my creative practice.

What is an interesting piece of trivia about you that people don’t know?
Before becoming an artist and photographer, I took part in Miss India in 2000 and spent a few years modelling in India

An experience that shaped my comfort with visual storytelling and presence.

Tell us about your family.
I’ve been married for 24 years and have two daughters. Music plays a big role in our family life. We love exploring different genres together, and it has become a shared way to slow down and connect. Both my girls play the guitar, and we sometimes jam as a family.

What has been your strongest influence in your art career thus far?
My strongest influence has been my mother, who is a hobbyist artist and deeply creative person. Growing up around her, creativity was always a natural part of daily life. Over time, my background in interior design and extended travels at sea with my husband have also shaped my visual language, influencing my sense of space, balance, and the quiet rhythms found in nature.

What is your vision for yourself as an artist 5 years from now?
In five years, I hope to be exhibiting my work internationally and to be recognized as a credible contemporary artist. More importantly, I aim to continue developing a distinct and authentic voice, creating work that resonates across cultures while staying true to my intuitive, mixed-media practice.
