APARNA CHAKRAVARTY

EXPLORING LIFE IN ABSTRACTION.

Nature, textures, colours and juxtaposition of various colours, and patterns inspire me. These elements reflect abundantly in my creations.

I like experimenting with various mediums and tools. Keeping the subject/theme central, I choose the medium that best suits the painting. Learning and experimenting is a constant with me as I keep expanding my boundaries as an artist. I participate in various  courses, workshops and experimentation to this end.

I like to work across various styles: figurative, realistic, semi-abstract and abstract. Delving into abstract art has opened up another dimension of art exploration for me. It has given me the wings to explore and the freedom to experiment. At the same time, it challenges me to understand myself, my feelings, knowing when I need to stop putting my thoughts on the canvas. I hope to keep exploring this medium and share it with the rest of the world as I go along.

BIOGRAPHY

QUIETUDE 1

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

76 CM X 76 CM

2023

QUIETUDE 1 is part of a series that I have started, aiming to encapsulate the tranquil essence of the ocean. Spending countless hours observing it’s ever changing hues, the calming ocean sounds inspired me. I’ve tried to convey this serenity through the undulating lines and calming colours, intending to evoke a sense of peace and harmony for those who view the artwork.

QUIETUDE 2

MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS

121 CM X 91 CM

2024

QUIETUDE 2 is part of a series capturing the serene essence of the ocean. Immersed in its ever-shifting tones and soothing sounds, I’ve tried to translate this tranquility into art. Through undulating lines and tranquil hues, my aim is to evoke a profound sense of peace and harmony for viewers. Employing crackle texture alongside a palette of turquoise and aqua, I’ve delved into the interplay of texture and colour to enrich the painting’s depth and evoke the ocean’s tranquil beauty.

FESTIVE HUES 1

MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS

76 CM X 76 CM

2023

FESTIVE HUES 1 is an acrylic painting, that has crackle paste for texture. It encapsulates the kaleidoscope of Indian festive celebrations. A riot of colours bursts forth, expressing the jubilant spirit of traditional festivities. From the vivacious reds to the soothing blues, every hue weaves a tapestery of joy, unity, and cultural richness, making this painting a visual ode to India’s vibrant celebrations.

FESTIVE HUES 2 intricately blends crackle paste and vibrant acrylic colours, showcasing a harmonious palette of red, gold, and white reminiscent of celebrations in various Asian cultures. The painting seeks to capture the splendor and beauty inherent in these cultural festivities, evoking the same joy and hope I experienced growing up. Time may have passed, but the essence of these celebrations remains unchanged in my heart.

EMERGE

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

91 CM X 91 CM

2023

EMERGE, an abstract painting, depicts the resurgence of colours in our lives following the sanitized and inward focussed period during the peak of COVID. The white symbolizes the sanitized and secluded life at that time. The return of normalcy, after an extended period, is represented by the vibrant array of colours; pushing aside the sanitised white and bringing a burst of life back into our existence.
