Latana’s multidisciplinary practice explores the fragile territory where beauty and fracture coexist. Across painting, sculpture, photography, and mixed media, she returns to questions of identity, memory, rupture, resilience, and transformation. Time is a recurring presence in the work — a force that erodes, reveals and alters what remains. Central to her current practice is an enduring fascination with light emerging from darkness, not simply as illumination, but as an expression of persistence, possibility and renewal.
Her paintings are built through transparent acrylic glazes, mineral and mica pigments, metallic leaf, charcoal and layered surface interventions, creating luminosity that appears to emerge from within the work. This investigation of light connects contemporary material experimentation with her longstanding fascination with the Old Masters and their ability to construct illumination within the painting itself. Her wider practice extends these concerns into photography, mixed media and sculpture, including work in Carrara marble, bronze and other materials.
Latana’s practice has evolved through years of working across cultures and disciplines. Her work has been presented internationally at venues including Sabah Museum and Sabah Art Gallery in Malaysia, MIIT Museum in Turin, Insa Art Center in Seoul, MUSA Pavilion in Venice, and the Florence Biennale. Her photographic series Sabah: Land Below the Wind is held in the permanent collection of Sabah Museum, while her Carrara marble and stainless-steel sculpture The Hand of Time is permanently installed at Omya AG in Switzerland.
