Storytelling emerges through the juxtaposition of different elements, utilizing an interdisciplinary influence of design formats such as travel photography, decor, and architecture to achieve a fragmented expression. My art practice is driven by the intent of visual interplay, incorporating various forms and elements from everyday life.
The work is created using a diverse array of materials and techniques that echo the conceptual intent of blending contemporary style with cultural abstraction. Central to this process are:
Mixed Media: Utilizing various materials—such as paint and sometimes fabric—allows for a tactile experience that enhances the storytelling aspect. This approach creates layers of meaning and texture.
Photography: Incorporating travel photography captures authentic moments and perspectives, grounding the work in real-world experiences while adding a visual narrative element.
Architectural Design Principles: Drawing from your background in architecture, the composition employs structural elements like balance, proportion, and space, which not only organizes the visual elements but also reflects the interconnectedness of different cultural narratives.
Cultural Symbols: Elements like saree-clad women and vintage decor serve as cultural touchstones, enriching the artwork with historical and emotional resonance. This choice of symbols invites viewers to explore deeper cultural themes.
Natural Elements: Incorporating tropical greens adds vibrancy and life, creating a contrast that emphasizes the interplay between nature and urban experiences.
These materials and techniques are not only integral to the visual impact of the work but also serve to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and foster a connection between the viewer and the multifaceted stories being told.
Kavita has spent more than a decade working in Architecture and Design Branding space. Being a self taught and unconventional artist she has shown at art galleries in Singapore such as ION Art Gallery and Arts House over the past couple of years.
Canvas Connections- Art collective has breathed a new life into her art journey and wants to grow as an artist with defination.
