Jillian Cheong
(b. 1985. Singapore.)Jillian Cheong works in mixed media, using primarily acrylic paint and collage. Her work explores what it is to be, celebrating the beauty in the mundane and the intrinsic worth of the individual, using nature and wildlife as both imagery and metaphor.
Jillian had her Solo exhibition “The Wild Knows no Fear” with Sound of Art, at Millenia Walk, Singapore. Jillian has also participated in Affordable Art Fair Singapore 2025. Jillian Cheong’s practice is shaped by her experience with long Covid, which caused her to re-evaluate her way of measuring success, and to grapple with the concepts of identity, worth and value. She asserts that we are human beings, not human doings and that value is innate to who we are and not what we do. Her works focus on what it is to be – to be present in the moment, and the innate value of the person without the need to do or perform. Nature is her source of inspiration, in both imagery and metaphor.
Jillian uses acrylic paint in bold colours and adds collage with texture and pattern to draw the eye of the viewer. She adds these details to challenge the viewer to see the mundane or the individual in a different light. She intentionally integrates various collage materials as vehicles for exploring concepts of identity and place.
Jillian’s work has been exhibited extensively in Singapore, including a solo exhibition at Millenia Walk, and group exhibitions at Pan Pacific Hotel, The Art House, Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, Visual Arts Centre and Tembusu Art Gallery. She also participated in the Affordable Art Fair Singapore in 2025.

Beauty and wonder await us in many places if we only take time to look.
A female scarlet-backed flower pecker flits about, feeding amongst the branches of a shrub at the botanic gardens, almost within arms reach. Tiny and easily overlooked, it is its loud bird song that announces its presence.

At the Singapore Quarry there is a small hidden stream that runs beside the sheltered pavilion. Dragon flies flit between the reeds, a splash of colour in the quiet and tranquil space.

ENQUIRE
A fern clings gently to the tree, its leaves unfurling like quiet prayers. Above, clouds curl and sweep across the canvas in luminous rhythm, echoing the restless skies of Van Gogh. The eye is carried upward, from the rooted to the infinite. This work whispers a simple truth: even in our lowest moments, wonder can be found—if only we remember to look up.

As you walk along the path at Lower Pierce Reservoir, you will come across a tree that peaks above the canopy. Cradled in its branches are majestic birds nest ferns, lush and resplendent in the morning light. A moment of quiet glory and awe.
