I would describe my work as fine art with a decorative sensibility, rooted in realism but often infused with a touch of abstraction.
— Margarita Buttenmueller

Margarita Buttenmueller is a Singapore-based contemporary artist working predominantly with oil and acrylic mediums. Originally from Russia, she also lived in Germany, UK, USA, and twice in Singapore, each place shaping her artistic voice. Her art journey started in 2012 by taking painting classes as a hobby in one of the art studios in Singapore. Later in London, she attended such art schools as The Art Academy, Morley College, and Central Saint Martins while having a full-time job in a tech startup. Upon moving to New York in 2016, Margarita gave up her career in marketing to become a full-time artist. She attended classes in the Art Students League of New York and Bridgeview School of Fine Arts, and participated in a few exhibitions in New York City prior to moving back to Singapore.

Color plays a central role in Margarita's practice. She creates bold, expressive paintings that bring light, warmth, and vibrancy to any space. Working mainly with oil and acrylic, she explores rich palettes and layered textures to reflect the beauty she sees in nature - be it tropical foliage, seascapes, or landscapes. Margarita believes color can uplift and energize, as well as soothe and quiet the mind. Her goal is to create art that transforms interiors and offers moments of calm, joy, and reflection.

Margarita likes reimagining what she sees and often replaces real-life colors with imagined ones to express feeling, energy, or atmosphere rather than literal representation. Nature is Margarita’s inspiration, but emotion guides her palette. Through this intuitive use of color, she aims to create vibrant, layered compositions that invite viewers to pause, feel, and see familiar subjects in a new and unexpected light.

Margarita’s art is an invitation to step into the embrace of nature, to feel the gentle breeze, hear the rustling leaves, and witness the intricate dance of life. It is her humble endeavor to share the profound beauty that exists all around us and inspire others to embark on their own journey of exploration, discovering the magic that lies within the embrace of nature.
