APARNA CHAKRAVARTY

ABOUT APARNA

Nature, texture, colour, and pattern are recurring points of reference in her work. Her paintings build slowly over time, creating quiet depth and balance that invite viewers to pause and look closely. For Aparna, painting is as much about the physical presence of materials as it is about the final image. Through this considered and contemplative process, she creates works that feel calm, organic, and immersive, encouraging a sensory connection with colour, surface, and form.

Aparna has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Singapore. Her work has been featured in art magazines, and her paintings are held in private collections across India, Singapore, the United States, and Hong Kong.

My intention in creating art is for viewers to discover a reflection of themselves—their emotions, experiences, and personal narratives—within my work.
— Aparna Chakravarty

Aparna Chakravarty’s artistic practice is guided by curiosity and a thoughtful engagement with materials, techniques, and ideas. Her studio functions as a space of focused exploration, where each body of work contributes to a refined and recognisable visual language. While she remains open to new processes and perspectives, her work is grounded in a consistent approach shaped over time. She views experimentation as a way to deepen—rather than redefine—this language, allowing for subtle growth while maintaining clarity of direction and intent. This balance shapes both the rhythm of her making and her decision-making.

Her path into fine art developed from a background in graphic design, illustration, and digital media, which continue to inform her sensitivity to composition, layering, and visual rhythm. After working in India and Singapore, she shifted her focus fully to painting, drawn to its tactile, process-led nature and the intuitive space it offers.

Moving fluidly between representational and abstract modes, Aparna’s work is united by a strong emphasis on texture and the relationship between colour and surface. Formally trained in representational art and illustration, she extends this foundation through an ongoing engagement with abstraction. She is particularly drawn to the tactile and visual distinctiveness of materials, often layering diluted pigments over textured grounds. Through this gradual, layered process, subtle patterns and spatial depth emerge, allowing surface and colour to interact in ways that enrich the composition while remaining characteristic of her established practice.
