Aparna Chakravarty
(b. 1975. Calcutta, India.)Aparna Chakravarty is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, mixed media, ceramics and fibre art that explored nature, memory, place and emotion.
Mrida 4 awarded “Silver Award” and exhibited at the 19th International Art Awards Exhibition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum.
“My intention in creating art is for viewers to discover a reflection of themselves—their emotions, experiences, and personal narratives—within my work.”
Drawing from close observation of nature, her work explores the relationships between colour, texture, pattern, and surface through slow, layered processes. Whether working with paint, clay, or handmade pigments, she embraces the transformative qualities of materials, allowing time, touch, and repetition to shape each piece.
Her recent practice has expanded into working with earth pigments from around the world, developing her own earth pigments using potting soil and naturally occurring mineral pigments. This ongoing research deepens her engagement with the physical and poetic qualities of the landscape, creating works that are rooted in place while reflecting broader themes of memory, impermanence, and connection.
Her work is held in private collections across India, the United States, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Aparna’s work has been awarded the Silver Award and been exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum. Aparna’s artwork has been shortlisted VAA Art500 International award.

Mrida—derived from Sanskrit—means soil, earth, or clay. More than the ground beneath our feet, it embodies one of the five great elements: foundation, fertility, and the silent witness to time’s passage.
The Mrida Series is an abstract exploration of earth in its many forms—soil, clay, and stone. When observed closely, the ground reveals a spectrum of colors and textures, from subtle to striking. A visit to Mumbai, where deep volcanic soil made surrounding greens glow almost fluorescent, inspired this reflection on the overlooked beauty of earth’s shades.
