Berenika Drazewska
(b. 1986. Warsaw, Poland.)Working across oils, acrylics, and watercolours, Berenika balances painterly chance with deliberate structure to evoke the poetry of flickering light and shadow.
Berenika has participated in the 2026 A Tale of Two Cities, Residency Outcome Showcase, V54 / Po Leung Kuk, HK · 2026. She has also participated in HK-Quanzhou International Watercolour Exhibition (juried) · Berenika has also been longlisted in the 2026 Jackson’s Art Prize.

Berenika sees painting as a subtle, non-verbal language that speaks to a sense of wonder awakened by the natural world. Driven by curiosity, her practice balances chance with intention as she investigates the fleeting qualities of light across diverse media. Relying on spatial ambiguity, translucent layers and dissolving edges, she translates fleeting moments of light and shadow into tactile form.
Berenika’s process is highly intuitive, grounded in deep introspection and a fascination with the materiality of paint. Captivated by the transparent washes, subtle movement, and unpredictability of watercolour, Berenika seeks to transpose those fluid qualities across other media. Her most recent series of oil paintings, Shapeshifters, emerged from translucent acrylic underpaintings, developing through responsive mark-making directly on the canvas.
In 2026, Berenika’s painting was selected for the Longlist of the Jackson’s Art Prize. Her work has been shown in solo and group shows in Singapore, Hong Kong and Mainland China, and is held in collections across Europe, Asia and Australia.

This painting was inspired by a trip to Laos. While walking near a Buddhist monastery I saw a washing line of orange monk robes glowing against a cobalt blue sky. I was immediately captured by the powerful chromatic contrasts and the simple beauty of the scene.

This artwork was inspired by a trip to Ubud, which is my favourite place in Bali. One morning I was woken up very early by the sounds of chanting from a nearby temple and of roosters crowing, and I was not too happy about that! But then I stepped outside and saw these gorgeous swathes of golden light on the dense greenery… I was so glad to witness this spectacle of nature!

Lau Pa Sat is a well-known landmark in Singapore, but it is also a place of unique atmosphere. My favourite time there is between the lunchtime bustle and the madness of the blue smoke from the satay grills at night, when the market temporarily quiets down and I can admire the lacelike Victorian ironwork.

This artwork painted in 2026 is inspired by a plein air session in the Emerald Hill neighborhood in Singapore, one of my favourite locations to paint. In combination with the cast shadows on the shophouses, the ornamental emerald green tiles tangled in the surrounding greenery make for a unique, charming scene.
