What media of art do you work in?
I work across mixed media, including acrylic, gouache, oil, pastels, paper, canvas, wood and metal leaf.

How would you describe your genre of painting?
Abrstract Color Fields integrating the Japanese Art of Kintsugi with Chakric Symbolism

Describe your creative process.  When you begin a painting, do you have an idea of what the end result is? Do you prepare sketches first?  Do you know the colors you are going to use?
When I enter my studio, I focus on “warming up” with mundane tasks, prepping the work area, laying out materials, setting up my space with a candle and music/TV.  All the while, I am looking at my unfinished pieces to see what type of layer should come next.  From there, I just let my unconscious takeover - whatever feels right is what I paint next.

How do you hope viewers interpret your artwork?
I hope viewers feel a sense of calm and peaceful resilience when they view my work.  I wish to impart a positive, resilient energy through my art.

What is your favorite praise you have received from a client/viewer  about your work?
A client who has a PhD in Neuroscience said that the kintsugi lines I draw in my work mirror the neurons firing in the brain when she looks through a microscope.  It’s as if “nature” has been telling us all along how to become resilient by embracing our scars and allowing us to re-connect within ourselves.

Outside of being an artist, what are some other things/hobbies you enjoy?
I love to travel and explore other cultures.  I also write poetry, am a movie buff and like to exercise by swimming, yoga, walking in nature and going to the gym.

What is an interesting piece of trivia about you that people don’t know?
I sang in an award-winning vocal jazz group in high school.  I also played the violin and piano for a short time.

Tell us about your family.
I am a wife and mother of 3 children, 2 of which live in the States.  We love to travel together, ski, snowboard, and we are big into soccer and trying out new restaurants.

What has been your strongest influence in your art career thus far?
Being quarantined during COVID forced me to spend a lot of time in my studio, like all artists.  The concept of integrating the Art of Kintsugi into my artwork was borne out of this time in my studio.

What is your vision for yourself as an artist 5 years from now?
They say “declaring” your intention is half the battle.  So, I am telling the universe- my art will hang in a museum and will be celebrated for bringing a calm, energetic resilience to people’s spaces.
