ARTIST STATEMENT

My artistic practice is guided by curiosity and a thoughtful engagement with materials, techniques, and ideas. The art practice space functions as a place of focused exploration where each project contributes to a refined and recognisable visual language. While I remain open to new processes and perspectives, my work is grounded in a consistent approach that reflects a style developed over time. I value experimentation as a way to deepen, rather than redefine, this language, allowing subtle growth while maintaining clarity of direction and intent throughout my practice. This balance shapes the rhythm of my making and decision-making.

I move fluidly between representational and abstract modes, united by a strong emphasis on texture and the relationship between colour and surface. Formally trained in representational art and illustration, I extend this foundation through an ongoing engagement with abstraction. I am drawn to the tactile and visual distinct qualities of materials, often layering diluted pigments over textured grounds. This process reveals subtle patterns and depth, allowing surface and colour to interact in ways that enrich the composition while remaining characteristic of my established practice.

BIOGRAPHY

Aparna Chakravarty’s path into fine art grows from her background in graphic design, illustration, and digital media, which continue to influence how she approaches composition, layering, and visual rhythm. After working in India and Singapore, she turned her focus fully to painting, drawn to its tactile, process-led nature and the space it offers for intuitive exploration.

Her work reflects a deep interest in nature, texture, colour, and pattern. Moving between representation and abstraction, she builds her paintings gradually through layers of pigment, allowing forms and relationships to emerge over time. These layered surfaces create a quiet sense of depth and balance, inviting viewers to slow down and look closely.

Aparna has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Singapore. Her work has been featured in art magazines, and her paintings are held in private collections across India, Singapore, the United States and Hong Kong.

For Aparna, painting is as much about the physical presence of materials as the final image. Through this thoughtful process, she creates works that feel calm, organic, and contemplative, encouraging a sensory connection with colour, surface, and form.
