KAVITA CHACHCHA

CONTEMPORARY WITH AN INDIAN SOUL.

In my art I like to connect modernity & cultural abstraction. Different mediums allow me to express different ideas. Art, I create is driven by image, medium and process constructed by my background in architecture. A new identity breathes life onto my canvas through its design interface and juxta positioning of interconnected unfinished fragments of Travel & photography, textiles & saree, vintage lamps & lanterns, doors & windows, orchids & tropical greens, and other elements.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Kavita Chachcha is a former architect and a visual artist based out of Singapore. Her works weave cultural narratives from her native country, India, with contemporary minimalist design sensibilities, catered to global nomads like herself. Her style can be best described as ‘Contemporary art with a touch of tradition.’ Kavita has grown up in India and her work touches upon the memories and messages derived from her roots of cultural origin. The artwork depicts these messages through deeper conversations released through fluidity of her painted brushstrokes. By layering contrasting ideas both traditional and modern in nature she wants the viewers to feel connected and surprised.

Over the last three years had the opportunity to participate in several exhibitions and Art collectives initiating a dialogue between modern art and traditional elements, held in Singapore

BIOGRAPHY

BLUE DOOR

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

45 CM X 60 CM

2021

This artwork transports you to places you may feel you are on your vacation. A red postal box sets against a heavy textured white, grey wall, a blue old wooden door adorned by pink bougainvillea completes the Mediterranean storytelling. Textural Depth of the art is achieved by thick coats of paint and palette knife.

STRING THE LIGHT 2

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

71 CM X 100 CM

2023

A colorful celebration of festivities in multicultural Singapore. The lanterns are a common repetitive theme explored in this painting. This artwork is created using loose brushstrokes with a neutral grey backdrop highlighting the pop of bright red pink lanterns showcasing layers of Asian aesthetics & symbolism.

CALM MOMENTS

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

90 CM X 90 CM

2021

Both composition and blue, brown color palette used in this artwork is an ideal way to construct the visual of calm moments. The color is spread with intuition giving way to new bodies of color through layering and blending. The flow of brush was a very Zen experience, and it shows in the end result.

LIFE IS LIGHT

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

90 CM X 90 CM

2021

This artwork channels a vintage vibe with an old-world charm backdrop. The subject of this art is a lady draped in shades of yellow silk saree with flowers in her hair gazing towards light. Vibrant colors and Indian soft sky blue with a textured old wall like finish adds both to its visual interest and comes together for a storytelling full of memories, nostalgia and beyond the past.

LIGHT IS BLISS

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

21 CM X 29.7 CM

2021

A culture forward moment captures the combination of outline of a vintage lamp against an abstract modern art background in this painting. There is an ongoing dialogue between the modern color palette and traditional elements (a hanging brass lamp) in a minimalist way.
